ScreenArt Pro vs Droplr: the cloud capture subscription with AI redaction on Enterprise, and the Windows app that redacts for everyone and uploads nothing

The short answer. Droplr is a hosted capture product: screenshot or record, and the file is in Droplr’s cloud with a link on your clipboard, with 100 GB of storage, custom domains and self-destruct links on paid plans and AI auto-redaction reserved for Enterprise. There is no free plan; one person pays $72 a year. ScreenArt Pro is the opposite design for Windows: nothing is uploaded, Smart Redact finds and covers secrets in both plans before the file exists, capture is at the physical pixels, annotations are editable layers, a finished look is one click, the recorder has a real editor, and an MCP server lets AI agents take the screenshots. €1.99 a month or €24.99 once.

Why people compare these two

Droplr is one of the original “capture and the link is already on your clipboard” tools, and it has grown into a hosted file-sharing product with a capture app on the front. Screenshot a region, the full screen or a whole web page, record a GIF or HD video with a webcam, and the file is in Droplr’s cloud with a link. Paid plans add 100 GB of storage, 10 GB uploads, a custom domain, private folders with passwords, self-destruct controls and click analytics. Enterprise adds SSO, viewer analytics and AI auto-redaction.

The product is the cloud. The capture app is how files get into it. That is a reasonable thing to sell, and it is the opposite of what ScreenArt Pro is. This article compares the two honestly: where a hosted link with analytics is genuinely what you want, and why for the screenshot itself, and for everything with a secret in it, the Windows-native app that uploads nothing is the better tool.

What Droplr does well

  • The link is instant and the sharing controls around it are real: private folders with passwords, self-destruct, a custom domain, and analytics that tell you who clicked.
  • It is a file-sharing service as well, with 10 GB uploads and 100 GB of storage, so a video, a PDF and a screenshot can live under one link style.
  • Full web page capture is there, which ScreenArt Pro does not do.
  • It runs on Mac, Windows and in Chrome with one account.
  • Enterprise has the right features for a company that must use a hosted link: SSO, viewer analytics and AI auto-redaction.

If you are a sales or support team that needs a branded link with a click count, Droplr is built for that and this article will not pretend otherwise. The rest of this page is about the screenshot itself, and about what the upload-first design means for everything with a secret in it.

The privacy case, made plainly

Droplr is clear about its design: the capture is saved to the cloud and the link is on your clipboard. Its security page says the data lives in AWS us-west-2 in the USA, is encrypted in transit, and is backed up in two locations. It does not state a retention period there. From that point:

  • Every capture is on a US server the moment you take it, whether or not you meant to share it. The quick grab of a terminal, the billing page, the chat window. There is no local-only mode.
  • The link is a publication. Self-destruct and passwords help, if you set them, per file, before you paste. Forwarded once without them, it is out.
  • Nothing checks the frame unless you are on Enterprise. AI auto-redaction is a custom-priced tier. On Pro Plus and Team the customer’s email in the CC line, the API key in the terminal and the card number on the billing page go up with the rest.
  • Residency is decided for you. For a European team, a customer-data screenshot in a US region is a transfer you have to account for.
  • Deletion is a request to a third party. A file you want gone from your disk is a file you delete. A file on a vendor’s server has copies, backups in two locations and a retention policy you did not write.
  • There is no free plan, so the archive is tied to a subscription. Stop paying and you are negotiating with a vendor for your own screenshots.

ScreenArt Pro removes the chain. Capture, editing, text recognition, redaction and recording run on your PC. There is no upload path in the app at all. Smart Redact is in both plans, not an Enterprise tier: it finds email addresses, API keys, bearer tokens and JWTs, card numbers and IBANs, phone numbers, IP addresses and connection strings with a password in them, and covers each in the colour sampled from around it, so the cover reads as part of the page, before the file exists. When you do share, it is through your Drive, your Slack, your Notion or your own site, with the access rules, residency and retention your organisation already has. The headache is not smaller; it is not there.

Where ScreenArt Pro goes further

The capture itself is better

Droplr grabs a region for the upload. ScreenArt Pro captures through Windows Graphics Capture at the physical pixels of each display, across monitors with different scaling, and writes an sRGB-tagged lossless PNG, so a 12px label is as crisp as it was drawn and the colours survive. Enhanced Render reconstructs captured UI text and flat geometry at the output resolution where it is confident, labelled as derived. The promise on the home page is “the highest-quality screenshots on Windows”.

A real editor

Droplr’s mark-up is painted into the picture. ScreenArt Pro’s editor is laid out like every editor you know, a tool rail on the left, the picture in the middle, an inspector on the right. Counters renumber when you reorder them; arrows, boxes, highlights and captions are layers you move, restyle or delete until you export; the original capture is always one comparison away; the project stays editable after export.

A finished picture in one click

Beautify puts the capture on a backdrop with room around it, rounds the corners, drops a soft shadow, lets a window light fall across the card and tilts it in 3D, with annotations and redactions staying on the card. A brand kit saves the look so every screenshot you publish matches the last one. Droplr’s custom branding is on the link page, not in the picture.

A recorder with an editor

Droplr records and uploads. ScreenArt Pro records the screen and opens the take in an editor where the polish is already on the timeline: a zoom that follows your clicks, a smoothed cursor, captions and keystroke badges, subtitles generated on your PC with SRT and VTT export, sixteen intro styles, twelve transitions, a 3D card with motion blur, all rendered on the GPU, exported as MP4, WebM with transparency or GIF in 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16. The recording page has the details. Smart Redact works on the recording too, for every frame a secret is visible.

Your AI agent can take the screenshots

ScreenArt Pro runs as an MCP server, the open protocol Claude, Codex and most coding assistants use to call tools. Added in Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex or any MCP client, your agent can list your windows, read the labels on them, and save a cropped, annotated, branded screenshot of each step, singly or as a numbered set with a manifest, with Smart Redact applied by default. It can record a scripted walkthrough with the real pointer and replay a task you rehearsed once. You approve each session, anything that moves the mouse asks again, and Esc stops everything. Nothing is uploaded. The automation page lists all 25 tools.

Where Droplr is still the right choice

  • The link, with a click count, is the deliverable. Sales and support teams sending branded links to customers.
  • You need one place for files, video and screenshots under one domain, with passwords and expiry.
  • You need full web page capture.
  • You are on a Mac as much as on Windows and want one account across both.
  • You are an Enterprise customer who has bought SSO and AI redaction and has a policy that allows the hosting.

Price, in full

Droplr has no free plan. Pro Plus is $8 a month, or $6 a month billed annually, $72 a year. Team is $9 per user a month, or $7 billed annually, $84 per user a year, for up to 15 members. Enterprise, where AI auto-redaction lives, is quoted. Two years of Pro Plus for one person is $144.

ScreenArt Pro has two plans, and the whole app is in both, Smart Redact included:

  • €1.99 a month. Every update for as long as you subscribe. Cancel from your account.
  • €24.99 once. Two years of updates, then keep the last version you installed for as long as you like.

€24.99 once is about a third of one year of Droplr Pro Plus and about a sixth of two. Polar is the merchant of record, so there is a VAT-compliant invoice at checkout, and both plans have a 14-day refund. No account is needed to run the app.

Who should pick which

  • Anyone who screenshots work systems, customer data or terminals: ScreenArt Pro. Nothing is uploaded, and the secrets are covered before the file exists, in every plan.
  • A developer publishing screenshots in docs, READMEs and release notes: ScreenArt Pro. Physical-pixel text, editable counters, a finished look in one click.
  • A documentation or support team: ScreenArt Pro, for the MCP server.
  • A founder or creator who also needs demo clips: ScreenArt Pro. The recorder is in the same project.
  • A sales or support team whose deliverable is a branded link with analytics: Droplr.

The bottom line

Droplr is a hosted sharing service with a capture app on the front: every file to a US cloud, a link on the clipboard, good sharing controls, no free plan, and automatic redaction only on Enterprise. ScreenArt Pro is the Windows screenshot tool that never uploads, covers secrets on its own in both plans, captures at the physical pixels, makes the picture finished in one click, records demo-grade video, and lets an AI agent take the screenshots for you. €1.99 a month or €24.99 once.

Install it, press the capture shortcut on the same window, and notice that the only place the file goes is where you put it.

Questions people ask

How much does Droplr cost?

Droplr has no free plan. Pro Plus is $8 a month or $6 a month billed annually ($72 a year). Team is $9 per user a month or $7 billed annually ($84 per user a year) for up to 15 members. Enterprise is quoted and is where SSO, analytics and AI auto-redaction live. ScreenArt Pro is €1.99 a month or €24.99 once with two years of updates.

What is the best Droplr alternative for Windows?

ScreenArt Pro. It keeps the one-shortcut speed and replaces the cloud link with a file you control. It captures at the display’s physical pixels with a lossless sRGB-tagged PNG, keeps annotations editable, covers emails, keys, tokens and card numbers automatically with Smart Redact in every plan, adds Beautify backgrounds with lighting and 3D, records the screen with auto-zoom and local subtitles, and runs an MCP server so an AI agent can take the screenshots. It is €1.99 a month or €24.99 once.

Does Droplr redact sensitive information?

Droplr lists AI auto-redaction as an Enterprise feature, with custom pricing. Pro Plus and Team get mark-up tools. ScreenArt Pro’s Smart Redact is in both plans: it runs text recognition on your PC and covers emails, API keys, tokens, card numbers, phone numbers and IP addresses automatically, in the colour sampled from around each match, in screenshots and for every frame of a recording.

Where are Droplr files stored?

Droplr’s security page says its services and data are hosted in Amazon Web Services facilities in us-west-2, in the USA, with backups in at least two locations and 256-bit encryption in transit. It does not state a retention period on that page. ScreenArt Pro stores nothing anywhere; every file is on your PC, in the folder you chose.

Does Droplr record video?

Yes, as a GIF or HD video with audio and an optional webcam, uploaded to the cloud. There is no editor for zoom, cursor or captions. ScreenArt Pro records the screen and opens the take in an editor with auto-zoom, a smoothed cursor, captions, keystroke badges, subtitles generated on your PC, intros and transitions, and exports MP4, WebM or GIF.

Can an AI agent use ScreenArt Pro?

Yes. ScreenArt Pro runs as an MCP server with 25 tools. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex or any MCP client can list windows, read the text on screen, take cropped and annotated screenshots singly or as a numbered set with a manifest, record a scripted walkthrough with the real pointer, and replay a task you rehearsed once. Droplr has no agent interface.
